UN Involvement & Human Toll
UN Involvement
Unlike a lot of other conflicts, the United Nations was actually somewhat involved in this conflict. They recognized that something was going on in this region and made an effort to try and establish peace. Their efforts might not have been successful at first but they did help to punish the war criminals.
Human Toll
Darfur is where the majority of the killings by the Janjaweed took place. It is estimated that around 300,000 to 400,000 were killed. About 2.7 million fled for their lives and are still displaced in other countries and refugee camps.
